On our recent holiday in Tuscany we had the chance to experience firsthand the service of the Italian public health system after Fraser managed to topple over on to the edge of a flower pot. A twenty minute drive to the nearest emergency department followed and Fraser was then the lucky recipient of eight stitches in his forehead. The little man was very brave! The hospital staff were excellent and coped with our very limited Italian. And, surprisingly, the Italians have a very generous health system so children are treated in emergency for no cost! A week later we were back to get the stitches out. The cut had been stitched very neatly and we are assured that the scar will barely be noticeable after a while.
More recently, Fraser proved once again what grace and style he has. After his bath the other night, he went back to the bathroom and decided to pick up one of his toys from the bath tub, which was still full of water. Of course, he had to reach a fair way over to get the toy and suddenly … kerplunk! He toppled head first into the bath. The image of him standing there in the bath in his sopping pyjamas with a rather stunned look on his face will stay with me for quite some time.
On average, I would have to say that Campbell doesn’t show much more grace stability than his brother. I think it is just luck that has prevented him from being the subject of these tales.
Note to self: make sure the private health cover is kept up to date when we get home!
